Dementia-friendly municipality Etten-Leur

More and more people are affected by dementia, either by themselves or as a loved one. In the municipality of Etten-Leur there are several facilities, activities and organizations that support people with dementia and their caregivers. These include meeting places such as the Alzheimer's Café, information points such as the Dementia Clinic, activities through DemenTalent and special drop-in points for questions and advice. There are also accessible meeting groups, creative workshops, adapted exercise activities and day care. Together with volunteers, professionals and local partners, Etten-Leur is working on a dementia-friendly society, in which everyone can participate and find support appropriate to their situation.

Even with dementia, you can participate in Etten-Leur society! Volunteers and local organizations are committed to supporting people with dementia and their caregivers.

The Alzheimer's Café
The Alzheimer Café is a meeting place for people with dementia, their partners, families, caregivers and other interested parties. During monthly meetings of the Alzheimer Café you can learn more about dementia, ask questions of experts and meet fellow sufferers. Each Alzheimer Café focuses on one theme. The Alzheimer Café takes place in The Warm Heart of Kloostergaard, Bisschopsmolenstraat 272 in Etten-Leur. The program starts at 19.30 hours and lasts until approximately 21.00 hours. Dementia Clinic
The Dementia Library is an information point in the library at De Nobelaer where materials and information can be found for and about people with dementia. This special collection consists of informative books, novels, picture books and leaflets. For more information visit www.denobelaer.nl/bibliotheek/dementheek. Library location: Parklaan 2 in Etten-Leur. Opening hours Library: Monday to Friday from 09.00 to 20.00 and on Saturday from 09.30 to 13.30.

DemenTalent
DemenTalent looks at the abilities and talents of people with memory problems and/or dementia. Each person is different and has his or her own preferences and wishes. From talents and interests we look for a volunteer function or activity to participate in. The emphasis is on what someone with dementia is still willing and able to do, and not on what is no longer possible. If you want to know more about DemenTalent please contact:

Meeting group for people with incipient dementia
In Etten-Leur is a meeting group where people with incipient dementia meet. A group with fellow sufferers who understand from each other what they go through, can learn from each other with a laugh and a tear. Approachable and non-committal. Every first Tuesday of the month from 10.00 to 11.30 at the Steunpunt Zorg voor een Ander, Valpoort 153 in Etten-Leur. Walk-in center for dementia Etten-Leur
More and more people are dealing with dementia. This can bring questions.
In Etten-Leur, you can ask these questions at the dementia walk-in center. People with and without dementia can walk in here if they are looking for information on dementia in Etten-Leur.
The dementia case manager and social worker present help people as best they can with questions about care and well-being related to dementia. Besides information, they also offer a listening ear and can give advice.
 

The drop-in point can be found at the Steunpunt Mantelzorg at Valpoort 153 in Etten-Leur.
Every first Tuesday of the month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

*At the drop-in point, there is the opportunity to experience what it is like to have incipient dementia through VR Glasses.

VR Glasses 

Etten-Leur is working to become a dementia-friendly society. Awareness is therefore very important. We want everyone
take you through the story of dementia. What is dementia? Where can you turn for help? But also; what can you do for someone with
dementia? That's why we are embarking on the VR glasses project.

Put on VR glasses and experience what it's like to have (incipient) dementia. Find current times and locations of the open

The Backyard
The Achtertuin is a beautifully landscaped garden in the outskirts of Etten-Leur. In this garden, people who for whatever reason go through life with a disability can visit. While walking through the backyard you will experience the rural tranquility and you can enjoy everything that grows, blooms and lives in the garden. Take a seat by the statue of Mary or Buddha, dream away by the pond or enjoy a drink at one of the picnic tables or coffee table. The Achtertuin is the place to get away from it all for both people with dementia and their caregivers. The garden is approachable and small-scale. Opening hours from May 1 to October 15 free walk-in: Every Tuesday 13.30 to 16.00. Other days/times: by appointment only (all year).

Day care Avoord
Avoord has several day care locations in Etten-Leur for 55+ visitors. You can come here if you have memory problems or physical problems. Also if you are lonely or find it difficult to fill your day, you are welcome at the day care. The professional guidance offers support in guiding clients physically, mentally and socially.

Living Room The Lime
Huiskamer De Linde in the municipality of Etten-Leur is for residents who live independently, want to get away from home for a while, feel lonely or just want to have a nice chat with other people. The living room is focused on meeting and being together. Everyone is welcome in De Linde living room at the Wipakker 16.
open the week from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is room for about 10 to 12 people to stay for a whole day, or occasionally part of the day. The creative workshop
The creative workshop is a meeting place for people with memory problems and their caregivers. Local artists offer four workshops each time. These include creative activities such as painting, drawing, mosaics, clay modeling and so on. Every other week on Mondays from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Adapted sports/exercise
Exercise is not only fun to do, it also keeps the brain active. In Etten-Leur, there are several opportunities for adapted sports/exercise such as:
Swimming: Twice a month on Thursdays there is the opportunity to swim with a caregiver in swimming pool De Banakker. Together with Curio nursing students you can exercise in the water and they can support you in changing clothes. The lesson is from 11.00 to 11.45 and you are requested to be present 15 minutes in advance. Would you like more information? Fitroute
On Thursdays from 10:45 am to 11:30 am, the community sports coach is ready to exercise with you. Or to give you information about the possibilities for exercise in Etten-Leur. You have the opportunity to walk the Fitroute or exercise in the Fituin. Meet at 10.45 am on the terrace of The Warm Heart of Avoord Location Kloostergaard. Each Fitroute begins with a joint warm up. Project and working groups dementia friendly municipality Etten-leur
In Etten-Leur, several working groups are working on becoming a dementia-friendly municipality. They do this under the guidance of an umbrella project group. These working groups, consisting of volunteers, caregivers and local organizations in Etten-Leur work on cooperation, prevention and awareness and organizing activities. Would you like to know more?
